Product Review: [By Wishtrend] TECA 1% Barrier Cream
Centella asiatica (cica) is having a moment right now and I jump at the chance to try cica products because they work so well for my skin. Recently, I was able to test the By Wishtrend TECA 1% Barrier Cream courtesy of 08Liter and Wishtrend for a trial fee. This cream has been a complete blessing, and l praise the skincare gods for it because it’s seriously saving my skin.
About [By Wishtrend] TECA 1% Barrier Cream
TECA stands for Titrated Extract of Centella Asiatica which is the key ingredient of this cream. Centella asiatica is excellent for improving one’s skin condition as it strengthens the function of the skin’s barrier and calms irritated skin. It also has healing and restorative properties.
Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethyl Hexanediol, Cyclohexasiloxane, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Tromethamine, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Glyceryl Caprylate, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA
The purified form of centella found in this cream is made up of asiaticoside, madecassic acid, and asiatic acid - note that “centella asiatica” is not present in the ingredients list. According to COSDNA, there are potential acne triggers and irritants present in this cream: Glyceryl Stearate SE (3 - acne, 2 - irritant), ceteryl alcohol (2 - acne, irritant), dimethicone (1 - ance).
It’s virtually odorless and I’m loving it!
It has a balm-like texture similar to an ointment or a tubed lip balm (like Carmex or Vaseline), but it absorbs easily without a greasy finish. It goes on pretty matte once patted into the skin.
It comes in a teal tube with a tapered applicator, similar to an ointment. This allows for more control when dispensing the product which ensures you don’t squeeze out too much at once. I appreciate the tube packaging since it’s more hygienic, but it will also be tough to squeeze out every drop once it runs low. It’s very travel friendly and can be slipped into your bag at ease.
Per the instructions, the cream is to be used as the final step of your routine, and best used in the aftermath of a breakout or popped pimple. It should be applied in a thin layer, 1-3 times daily or as needed. I use this on newly formed acne scars or acne-prone areas that never come to a head as I think it works best on new scars than residual scars. It can also be used on dry patches of skin.
I’ve tested this cream for a few weeks now. The cream sneaks up on you because just when you think it’s not doing much, you realize your skin is recovering much better and scars are healing faster than ever. I’ve found that it reduces potential acne scarring and lightens hyperpigmentation - especially when used with other treatments - it does a great job to seal everything in. The barrier cream also feels soothing and provides a nice protective layer to the skin. This product has worked well for me and I find myself reaching for it to heal new acne scars but also to prevent them in my acne-prone problem areas such as my jaw and neck.
The price point of $27.50 for 1.05 oz of product may seem pretty hefty, but I think it’s worth it as I don’t use too much product at a time. I’m really impressed with the TECA 1% Barrier Cream and realized it’s going to have a permanent spot in my routine. It’s on its way to holy grail status, and I would recommend it to all skin types to have on hand in the aftermath of a pesky breakout. Acne leaves battle scars - and this little unassuming teal tube speeds up the healing process in a way that you wish all your skincare worked for you.
5/5 stars and highly recommend!
