Product Review: COSRX PHA Moisture Renewal Power Cream

Product Review: COSRX PHA Moisture Renewal Power Cream

Hello Dewy Fam, Elizabeth here. For those of you that are finally experiencing wonderful spring weather, happy spring! For the rest of us that are currently experiencing a second or even third winter, hang in there, better times will soon come!

We were fortunate enough to be selected for Cupidrop’s 7th Generation of Beautiful Pioneers. Jane reviewed for the 6th Generation (you can check out her review here) but this time I will be reviewing the products that Cupidrop was generous enough to send. Thanks Jenny for sending this product and for also providing the Low pH PHA Barrier Mist!

I was particularly interested in this product because this past winter wreaked havoc on my skin and my normal skin turned into dry skin. The past few months I’ve been focusing on keeping my skin moisturized. This moisturizer provides an intense amount of hydration while maintaining the pH on your skin.

About COSRX

If you’ve been following us, you should know by now that Jane and I are COSRX diehards. COSRX is one of our favorite brands because their products are budget friendly and most importantly, they’re extremely effective. The best thing about COSRX is that they are inclusive to all skin types, so their products are ideal for anyone.

About the Product

COSRX’s PHA Moisture Renewal has a pH of 4 and is made with 3% PHA. PHA (polyhydroxy acids) are a type of acid that doesn’t penetrate as deep as a BHA or an AHA. PHAs stay on the surface of the skin as an exfoliant. What makes PHAs pretty unique is their moisturizing properties, they prevent the loss of moisture.

Key Ingredients

  • PHA: To exfoliate and moisturize

  • Cocos Nucifera Fruit Extract (aka coconut extract): For fast absorption and hydration

Ingredients

Cocos Nucifera (Coconut) Fruit Extract, Butylene Glycol, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Gluconolactone, Niacinamide, Betaine, Dimethicone, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, 1,2-Hexanediol, BeesWax, Elaeis Guineensis(Palm) oil, Elaeis Guineensis(Palm) Kernel Oil, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Ethylhexylglycerin, Citric Acid, Xanthan Gum, Sodium Hyaluronate, Allantoin

Scent

This moisturizer is completely unscented, so if you’re sensitive to fragrance you don’t have to worry.

Packaging

This product comes in a regular jar packaging, so it’s not very travel friendly. It has the same clean, clean simple design that COSRX is known for.

Texture

This cream turned out to be a lot thicker than I expected it to be, but fear not, it absorbs super well thanks to the coconut extract! The cream does not leave behind any sticky residue, but it does leave behind a little bit of a dewy residue, almost like a sheen but it doesn’t look greasy.

Use

I applied this cream after toner and essence. It’s important to note that this cream does contain a type of acid, and acids make you more susceptible to UV rays. Make sure to wear SPF after applying! Since this cream does leave a little bit of a sheen behind, this cream can also be used as a night cream if you prefer. Personally, I’m all for the slightly dewy look so I was okay with using it during the day.

Overall Thoughts

Let’s just give a round of applause to COSRX for doing what they do best, which is make awesome products, because this product is amazing. I expected this cream to tingle a bit because it contains acid, but I didn’t experience any. This product absorbs super well which is something that really stood out to me. I’m constantly in a hurry every morning, so it was nice knowing that I wouldn’t have to wait super long for this to absorb before I put on sunscreen and then my makeup. The light sheen the cream leaves behind was pretty nice because it made me look dewy without looking greasy.

After using this for a week, I noticed that my skin felt and looked a lot smoother. Redness was reduced quite a bit, which was an added perk (remember, I’m dealing with a third winter here in Seattle). Once the weather gets better, I will be probably continue using this as a night mask because of how thick the cream is.

Overall, I’m a huge fan of this cream and give it a 5/5. However, beware of the sheen that the cream leaves behind if you’re prone to oily skin.
